What is a Botox lip flip?

The lip flip is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that uses Botox injections to create the illusion of fuller and more defined lips. Unlike lip fillers that add volume to the lips, the Botox lip flip relaxes the muscles around the mouth, allowing the upper lip to gently roll upwards, giving the appearance of a more prominent lip without the need for invasive surgery.

Botox, short for Botulinum Toxin, is a neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is commonly used in the field of cosmetic medicine to temporarily paralyse facial muscles, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

One of the advantages of the lip flip procedure is its non-invasive nature.  This means there is minimal downtime and discomfort associated with the procedure.

Another benefit of the lip flip is its temporary nature. The effects typically last for around two to three months, after which the muscles gradually regain their normal function. This means that if you decide that the lip flip is not for you, the effects will eventually wear off, and your lips will return to their original appearance.

Where does Botox get injected in a Lip Flip?

In a lip flip procedure, Botox is typically injected into a specific area of the upper lip, known as the philtrum. This area is located just above the upper lip and below the nose. By injecting Botox into the muscles surrounding the philtrum, the upper lip is gently lifted, creating a fuller and more youthful appearance.

What is the difference between a Botox Lip Flip and Lip Filler?

While both techniques aim to enhance the appearance of the lips, the primary difference lies in how they achieve their results. Lip fillers add volume to the lips by injecting a gel-like substance into the lip tissue, while the Botox lip flip relaxes the muscles around the mouth to create the illusion of fuller lips.

Is a Botox Lip Flip better than Dermal Lip Filler treatment?

This is a subjective question and the answer depends on personal preferences and desired outcomes. Some clients prefer the subtle enhancement achieved through a Botox lip flip, while others prefer a more dramatic transformation with lip fillers. Our qualified doctors can carry out a fully personalised consultation to advise which option is best suited to your individual needs.

How quickly will I see the results?

The results become noticeable within a few days of the procedure. As the Botox relaxes the muscles around the mouth, the upper lip gradually rolls upwards, creating a fuller and more pronounced appearance. It is important to note that individual results may vary, and the full effects of the Botox lip flip may take up to two weeks to become fully apparent.

How long do the results last?

On average, results will last around two to three months and may be slightly shorter than other Botox treatment areas such as the forehead. The muscles around our lips are the most frequently used facial muscles on a daily basis – eating, drinking, talking etc. These constant movements affect the length of time results are noticeable.

Does a Lip Flip hurt?

The Botox lip flip procedure is relatively painless especially when administered by our experienced doctors. Some clients may feel a scratch at the injection sites but discomfort is minimal and will lessen and disappear within 24 hours. You may also experience some redness or swelling around the area which should resolve quickly.

Is there any downtime required after treatment?

One of the advantages of a lip flip is that it requires little to no downtime. The procedure itself is quick, usually lasting around 15 to 30 minutes, and most clients can resume their normal activities immediately afterward. However, it is essential to avoid touching or applying pressure to the injected area for the first 24 hours following the procedure to ensure optimal results.

Can a Botox Lip Flip go wrong?

While rare, there are some potential risks and complications associated with any cosmetic procedure, including a Botox lip flip. These can include temporary swelling, bruising, or asymmetry in the lips.

All treatments at White Swan Aesthetics are carried out by experienced and fully qualified doctors so the chance of complications after treatment is extremely low and all of our clients are invited back for a complimentary review appointment two weeks after the treatment.

To understand whether this treatment is right for you we would highly recommend to book in for a complimentary consultation with one of our medically trained Doctors.
