White Swan Aesthetics are pleased to announce the arrival of masseter Botox treatments at our Guildford clinic.
What is Masseter Botox?
Masseter Botox involves injecting Botulinum Toxin A into the masseter muscle to relax it, which results in jawline slimming and reduces the square appearance of the jaw. While Botox is typically known for its anti-wrinkle properties, it also addresses conditions like hyperhidrosis and enlarged masseter muscles. By injecting Botox into the masseter muscle, a square face can achieve a more V-shaped appearance. This safe, non-invasive method for jaw reduction and facial slimming is quick, taking just a few minutes.
What is the Masseter Muscle?
The masseter muscle, located on each side of the jaw, is crucial for chewing. Excessive chewing or teeth grinding can cause this muscle to enlarge, affecting the shape of your face. Factors contributing to larger masseter muscles include genetics, ethnicity (particularly in many Asian patients), clenching (bruxism), grinding, excessive chewing, and chewing on one side of the mouth.
What Does Botox in the Masseter Muscle Do?
TMJ Relief: Botox can help alleviate TMJ disorder if muscle tension causes jaw pain. Injecting Botox into the masseter and temporalis muscles relaxes them, providing temporary but long-lasting relief from TMJ pain.
Facial Slimming: Botox significantly reduces the masseter muscle, creating a slimmer face. The non-invasive procedure involves several sessions with small doses of Botox until the desired muscle reduction is achieved. However, it is not recommended for individuals whose squared jawline is due to bone structure, as Botox only affects the muscle.
Jaw Botox Before and After: Results typically take 4 to 6 weeks to become visible, with full effects evident after muscle atrophy. The results can last 4-6 months, after which the muscle gradually returns to its original form.
Extending the Effects of Masseter Botox: To help extend the effects:
Procedure: Before treatment, the area is cleansed and marked for injection. Typically, 15-50 units of Botox are injected on each side of the face into the masseter muscle. This quick procedure, taking only 3 to 5 minutes, should not impact biting or chewing significantly.
Safety and Aftercare: After the treatment, you can resume normal activities immediately but avoid rubbing the treated area, applying pressure, and exercising for 24 hours. The injections might feel like tiny pricks, and side effects are generally minimal, though they can include pain, swelling, bruising, and, rarely, a crooked smile or drooling.
Is Masseter Botox Right for You? Masseter Botox is ideal if you desire a slimmer, sharper V-shaped face without surgery, especially if you have enlarged jaw muscles due to overuse or bruxism.
